Fairbanks Ranch sits about six miles from Solana Beach and about six miles from Del Mar, close enough that the marine air off that stretch of coast still reaches garage door hardware here, even though the broader climate band is mild temperate rather than harsh. That's a slower failure mode than what you'd see somewhere colder or wetter - springs and cables corrode gradually rather than seizing outright - but it means the failure sneaks up on an owner who assumes mild weather equals no maintenance need.
The build year plays into it too. A door built in 1992 is a decade or more newer than a lot of the older housing stock elsewhere in the service area we cover from Encinitas, which sounds like an advantage - and it mostly is - but it also means these are the first doors in the area reaching the point where original torsion springs, rated for roughly 10,000 cycles, are actually due. Nobody replaced them on schedule because nothing broke yet.
